Application Process

How Do I Get My Utah Concealed Firearm Permit

There are two main steps required for applying to obtain a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit. The first step is take the mandatory four-hour Utah Concealed Firearm Training course from a certified Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Instructor. This course focuses on Firearm Safety – especially safe handling of handguns, Utah State Laws, Federal Laws, Escalation of Force, Situational Awareness, and much more.

Upon completion of the course, the instructor will sign and stamp your application. The second step is submitting your application and other materials (passport photos, copy of driver’s license, fingerprint cards, and payment) to the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS). Upon proper receipt of your application, DPS, by state law, has a maximum response time of 60 days to either issue your permit or letter of denial.
